Boswellia serrata, commonly known as Indian Frankincense, is native primarily to India, especially thriving in dry, mountainous regions such as Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. Its resin, known for its aromatic and medicinal properties, has historically been harvested and highly valued across the Indian subcontinent. While closely related Boswellia species are prominent in the Middle East and Horn of Africa (Oman, Yemen, Somalia, Ethiopia), Boswellia serrata itself remains distinctively Indian, adapting well to dry, arid climates with rocky soils.
