Sesamum indicum, commonly known as sesame, originates from regions in Africa, primarily Ethiopia and Sudan, and parts of the Indian subcontinent. Today, sesame cultivation is widespread in tropical and subtropical regions globally, including India, China, Myanmar, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Sudan, and parts of Central America. Sesame thrives best in hot climates, particularly in well-drained, sandy soils with moderate rainfall. India and China are among the largest producers, with extensive cultivation for culinary, medicinal, and cosmetic purposes.
